Art and Ecology
International Seminar on Art and Ecology
Wednesday October 21, 2009 at the Wanås Foundation, 10.30-17.00
Who will save the environment? You or the society? On Wednesday October 21, the Wanås Foundation presents an international seminar on art, ecology, and on what contributes the most to environmental progress: individual efforts or collective system changes. The question of shared responsibility and possibilities of collaboration is increasingly relevant and is well suited for a broad discussion. The seminar is presented in conjunction with the art exhibition Footprints (on view until October 25), which addresses man’s relationship to nature and includes works by the artists Tue Greenfort, Henrik Håkansson, Tea Mäkipää (with Halldór Úlfarsson), Tomas Saraceno, and Nilsmagnus Sköld.
Speakers
Max Andrews & Mariana Canepa Luna, founders of Latitudes, Barcelona, curators of Greenwashing. Environment: Perils, Promises and Perplexities (2008) and editors of the publication Land, Art: A Cultural Ecology Handbook (2006).
Folke Tersman, Professor of Practical Philosophy at Uppsala University, author of Tillsammans: en filosofisk debattbok om hur vi kan rädda vårt klimat (2009).
Joanna Yarrow, media commentator and expert on sustainable lifestyles, founder of the communication company Beyond Green, London, awarded an honorary doctorate at Staffordshire University.
