The initial thoughts of the participants
The exposure on trips like this can be palpable when the only thing that separates you from the surroundings is a thin layer, a tent. Also, the uncertainty of what you might encounter on the road. MD
The modern hobo sleeps on farms in exchange for practical services. We will ask in grocery stores if we can have the food that is thrown away in exchange for doing them a favor. We will arrange nothing ahead of time. ML & JI
We will play our old stories, but also new ones from the road. We will be attached through a little amplifier that I will carry in my backpack. Peter with his guitar and me constantly singing, talking into the microphone. ÉM & PH
When we step aboard the sailboat the year is 2020 and our society has reached Peak Oil. In the country and the world there is a scarcity of oil and we decide to leave the mainland to try to figure out how to relate to the new world order. JR & VH
On a little boat, I want to travel the sea route through Sweden. I hope the long and physically demanding trip will give me an inner journey around the world. I don’t want to travel as a student, but as a human. NJ
I want to walk without a map and rely on the information available around me. I want to get lost the right way. MH
On trips through Sweden, when passing through communities, ever since I was a child I’ve heard the comment “there used to be a store there”. I’m walking for myself and will document closed down grocery stores. CE
My story exists along the road. My father’s family is noble and from that side I have a lot of “personal” history material, in the form of notebooks and letters. My mother’s family consists of a blend of farmers and businessmen from the countryside. PF
During the month of September a shipwrecked sailor tries to find his way back to sea and to his ship. Since the sailor misses his companions from sea he hugs people that he considers to be in the same lonely situation as himself. KE
One of us is cut off from sight, hearing and speech during our travels. At night we’ll tell each other about the day, our experiences and impressions. What do we notice without important senses? CL & II
This September will be the first time since first grade that I will be outside the school system. I will transport a selection of things from the school’s storage, things that I, by August, neither have been able to throw away, nor want to own. SB
I am going to build a little puppet theatre as a trailer pulled by my bicycle. During the trip I will perform myths from the places where I will stop. Maybe stories I find in the local press or based on what I have experienced during the day. FB
In what ways does the road, with its purpose to facilitate transportation, obstruct free movement? Is it possible to transport oneself, by oneself, through a modern civilization like Sweden? AF
My first thought for transportation was a steam driven moped. For fuel I would use wood and water. If this idea is not feasible, I want to take a step down, closer to the ground, buy extra wheels and bearings, take my long board and skate southwards. AE
Leave the center of Stockholm on horse and exit through the suburbs to the sporadically populated landscape. Every night, I hope to reach a castle before it gets dark. AS
