WANÃ…S 1998

The Wanås Foundation is pleased to announce the opening of the ninth exhibition of international artists: Marina Abramovic, Janet Cardiff, Antony Gormley, Michael Joo, Allan McCollum, Kirsten Mosher, Monika Nyström, Roxy Paine, Peter Soriano.

Marina Abramovic has made a new work entitled The Hunt. It includes an installation on the top floor of the barn and a large scale outdoor work.

Janet Cardiff takes the visitor for a Wanås walk where the listener/walker will be lead to a sunken garden and hear her stories.

Antony Gormley shows a group of Insiders, 12 large stick-like bodyforms, in a remote area of the beech forest.

Michael Joo’s video and a tree in the barn will remind us of true nature. His brick satellite disk in a hillside is surrealistic in size and shape.

Allan McCollum makes his first outdoor project. Castings of a stump from an elmtree, which was struck by the Dutch elm desease, are spread out in the park. Indoors, displayed on countless tables, his TACK bars, made of brick, continue his Thanks projects.

Kirsten Mosher focuses on structures and public patterns in urban areas. Here she remakes the entrance to the barn and works with parkbenches and trees that ride on rails.

Monika Nyström’s room is jet black. The eyes will slowly discern a luminous pattern made of strings.

Roxy Paine’s projects deal with the unexpected outside and inside, a displaced lawn of weeds and a artificial field of puddles.

Peter Soriano covers the pillars in the old barn with thick pink which floats out onto the floor.
