WANÃ…S 1994

With five atists from the Nordic countries the exhibition was dominated by a both romantic and exlusive touch. Many installations were light and abstract in nature like Hreinn Fridfinnsson’s very subtle work in the barn ” To light shadow and dust “, a conceptually beautiful work by this artist from Iceland.

Marianne Uutinen (Finland) referred to the 18th centrury history of the cstle in a lavish installation of mirrors, painted with texts in thick pink paint “Carry me home”.

Per Kirkeby from Denmark made an architectural structure that with reference to the Danish tradition of brick building in the region. Nearby is the oldest church made of brick from 1192, whih inspired Per Kirkeby in buidling 2 curved walls, 10 meters long, five meters high open to the sky.

Mikael Lundberg (Sweden) covered a tree with the thinnest copper thread possible, 0.10mm using 192 km. of thread. Making the piece, walking around the tree hour after hour, became a performance. The tree glimmered in the light and shone bright during sunny winterdays.

Outdoors the work by Jeffrey Winsniewski attracted very much attention “Solar Implode/ Power House” 1994 of a mobile home which during the season was destroyed from the inside. The structure slowly imploded with the help of the energy from solarpanels placed on top of the house and winches. It was the first work of a young American artists born int the mid 60s, soon others from this generation were to follow at WanÃ¥s.
